    Into the Woods, Jr.

With a book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods Jr. is based on the Broadway production which won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical.  The musical follows a Baker and his Wife who learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door.  The couple embarks on a quest – swindling, deceiving and stealing from such already-victimized characters as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (fresh off the beanstalk!) – to get the special objects required to break the spell.  However, the story doesn’t simply end “happily ever after” as each character must now face the consequences of his/her decision.

We have two programs: At Faith Presbyterian Church of Valley Village, 5000 Colfax Ave. (across the street from Colfax Charter E.S.)

    Kinder Fairy Tale

    Directed and created by JanetFontaine.

A musical mash up of Fairytale fun with Miss Janet all culminating in costumed performance onstage in Caldwell Hall at our space at Faith Presbyterian Church!

    Into the Fairy Tale Forest

Directed and created by Pam Shafer Moser

Into the Fairy Tale  Forest is inspired by the Musical Into the Woods.  This is a more age appropriate program for children grades 1st-3rd grade.  Our story will involve traditional Fairytales with a bit of a twist, musical numbers and dance that will all come together with two fully realized performances on the Caldwell Hall Stage at Faith Presbyterian Church.  Stories include Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs and more!  This will be a delightfully silly musical romp though the Fairy Tale Forest!

“I want each of my students to experience their own personal best,” says Pam Shafer Moser, the co-founder of Village Arts, “whether that’s a natural little star who’s going to get up there and take the world by storm or if it’s the shy child who is very nervous about being on stage, whose big moment is the fact that they have a line and they can stand up there confidently and say that line and look out into the audience.”

Under Pam’s nurturing guidance for the past five years, I have watched my daughter turn from a timid girl into a fearless performer, making such interesting choices on stage it actually surprises me sometimes.

You drop your excited children off for 6-8 weeks and at the end of the session, the entire team of Village Arts has created a beautiful production made solely from a ton of passion and a lot of hard work.  We watched our child turn into an incredibly brave, outgoing, hilarious, and (who knew) really talented kid come to life. It truly is magical.
